Serious Scum Changes

Scum has been working on some very large changes- some which may benefit us, but probably not you- the consumer. Especially if you are the kind of customer that prefers to buy from us at craft shows and in person.

The owner of Scum Soaps, meaning myself, has received a very wonderful opportunity: to work towards and obtain a doctorate degree in the field of microbiology from Virginia Tech. This opportunity is a blessing, and was something I could not let slip me by.

Although we will be moving out of New Jersey and into Virginia, Scum Soaps will still be available through our website, etsy, and other outlets. While in Virginia we hope to maintain contact with all of our NJ customers, and vow to better maintain our website by adding newer products immediately and more frequently.

Although the details are not yet known, we will be officially leaving the state the month of August, with our last NJ show (for now) being in Cape May. In between now and that time- myself and my helper Dominic will be getting married. So as you could imagine, we have been busy!

Forgive us for the lack of communication

Is it spring already?

It seems that spring has come unusually early this "winter". And with no winter, I've had no rest! Many people have already begun looking to, and preparing for warmer weather. Scum is no different- we have been working on some HUGE things I am excited to announce probably sometime in April. One of those things, however, is a new-and-improved, better than ever bug repellant. We are also turning our bug repellant into a limited edition soap, pet shampoo, and maybe even as a powder!

Also, as we move into the spring and summer seasons you will find more publications about our products, ingredients, uses, tips, and other important information about us. We aim to uphold a 'transparent' relationship with our customers- meaning, nothing is hidden from the people who are trusting us. And this trust is the foundation of an ideal customer/business relationship.

Winter Holidays

Wow! The winter holidays are definitely here. Thanksgiving is over, and Christmas (holiday) lights are popping up on every street. Unfortunately, we are not doing many holiday shows this season (only one to be exact). And I apologize for our unavailability. But despite this- our products are always available online, through our website: www.scumsoaps.com. Our shipping is just $8.00 for ANY size order- simplifying the whole process. If you do not see what you want- shoot us an email, because we probably have it (it seems like we have everything!).

The one show we are attending is Christkindlmarkt at the Tuckerton Seaport (in Tuckerton, NJ). This is a two day show on December 10-11. We hope to see you there! As always, we will have many new products, scents, and looks. We grow faster than I can keep up with! (Details to come).

I hate Stickers

When I started this business, I swore to never use stickers ever on any of my products. For some reason, stickers have always bothered me- a pet peeve. Handmade products should have handmade labels, and this does not mean slapping a crappy printed label or sticker on your stuff. So I began cutting, stamping, and tying each label by hand.
Unfortunately, this is time consuming and a process unable to withstand the pressures of a growing business. It has lead me to a decision I did not want to admit to. But here it goes...

This past week I have started to print labels off the computer (instead of stamping them), and I have found this to be beneficial in more ways than one. First off, it takes less time and is actually much easier. Secondly, I am now able to fit all of the information required by the FDA onto my labels. This second part is a relief to me, and definitely a benefit to my customers. I can only apologize for it taking so long. And thirdly, it actually looks extremely professional! More so than I was expecting. The next step will, unfortunately, be stickers- on products such as our body powders and lip balms. And although this may bother me, it is a step I need to take. I am sure it is the right thing to do- and I hope my customers appreciate the value of this decision!

Beginning This

While Facebook and Twitter are excellent forms of mass communication- you are limited as to how much you are allowed to say. Because of that, I felt the need to start a blog based on the development and changes happening at Scum Soaps.
Stay tuned for more :)
